Princess Diana often wore a Philadelphia Eagles jacket during her lifetime, but royal fans weren’t really aware of her connection to the famous football team.
On February 10, CBS interviewed Marnie Schneider – the granddaughter of player Leonard Tose, who was the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles – about the story behind the late Princess Diana’s habit of wearing the team’s blue jacket.
According to Schneider, Diana’s chance to own the iconic shirt was very coincidental. In 1982, Jackie Edelstein – a financial analyst for the Philadelphia Eagles – attended the funeral of the late Princess Grace Kelly and met and talked with Diana. They discussed the main color of the football team.
“When Jackie said it was silver and green, Diana replied, ‘I love this color,'” Schneider recounted. She said Edelstein later planned to give the princess some Philadelphia Eagles memorabilia but was stopped by her grandfather.

“Jackie wanted to give Diana a T-shirt, but my grandfather said that wasn’t enough for a powerful royal woman. So they made it special for her,” Schneider said. In the end, the princess received a large gift box containing a jacket embroidered with the team’s iconic eagle logo.
Asked about her late grandfather’s reaction to seeing the princess wearing the coat, Schneider said: “My grandfather was probably very surprised.”
According to Page Six , the late Princess Diana loved this gift so much that she wore it everywhere, from casual activities to taking Prince William and Prince Harry to Alton Towers amusement park.

For Philadelphia Eagles fans, Diana is an icon. A store in South Fellini, Philadelphia even sells sweatshirts embroidered with Princess Diana wearing team gear.
According to Schneider, Diana was not necessarily a fan of the team, but she really loved the Philadelphia Eagles’ colors. The princess’s frequent wearing of this jacket helped her win the hearts of many people.
“We all admire Diana. She looks so relatable in this dress,” Schneider added.
